Most goldfish diseases share three root causes — poor water quality, chronic stress, and exposure to pathogens. A goldfish in stable, clean conditions will rarely become symptomatic.
Why Goldfish Get Sick
The “big three” stressors are uncycled water, temperature swings, and new tank mates or plants that carry pathogens. Ammonia and nitrite should sit at 0 ppm and nitrate below 20 ppm. Fin Rot

Treatment: dim the tank lights — Oodinium is photosynthetic. Treat with a copper-based medication such as Seachem Cupramine at quarter dose for sensitive breeds.
